Who will receive the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2024?
The public call for nominations for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2024 has begun: Citizens can now propose candidates for the award. The deadline for nominations is 1 March. Since 1950, the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers and Booksellers Association) has awarded the prize, which is endowed with 25,000 euros, annually in recognition of the work of a "personality who has made an outstanding contribution to the realisation of the idea of peace, primarily through his or her work in the fields of literature, science or art".
Nomination of candidates
If you would like to send us a proposal for the Peace Prize, please complete all the fields of the online form below by March 1. Please note that we do not accept proposals of your own. Please explain your proposal personally.
FAQs about the nomination
The procedure for nominating candidates is public. Every citizen can submit proposals for the Peace Prize until 1 March.
According to the statutes of the Peace Prize Foundation, the prize is looking for "a personality who has made an outstanding contribution to the realization of the idea of peace, primarily through his or her activities in the fields of literature, science and art". You cannot propose yourself.
Proposals should be justified in writing, stating the achievements and publications that identify the nominee as a candidate for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Please do not send us any books or detailed documentation. Should we need further information, we will contact you.
The Peace Prize Foundation Board then begins its deliberations on this year's award and selects the winner from the proposals received. In the middle of the year, we will announce who will receive this year's Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. The award ceremony takes place in October on Sunday, the last day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, in the Church of St. Paul in Frankfurt am Main.
